- What is chiropractic healthcare?
Chiropractic is a natural method of healthcare that treats the causes of physical problems such as misaligned joints and worn discs. Removal of misalignment through chiropractic adjustment helps the nervous system function properly. Since the nervous system controls all the functions of the body, a well-functioning spine and nervous system can result in improvements in headaches and fatigue, the immune system, circulation, digestion, loss of weight, increased energy and overall wellbeing.
- Is it safe? Will it hurt?
Dr. Templeton has over 18 years of experience working with conditions of the spine. He uses the safest and most advanced strategies for his patients including the Pro-Adjuster system that introduces a small mechanical force into the body and measures the response through sensors and software.
The Pro-Adjuster allows the doctor to do a pinpoint analysis and adjustment of your spine. You will feel impulses precisely in the affected areas. With the Pro-Adjuster you will receive gentle, effective treatment in that specific area, reducing the subluxation. This will relieve the pressure on the nerves, allowing them to heal, and restore the nerve's ability to transmit signals to the brain more freely.
- How often will I need to get adjusted?
The Rand Corporation is a nonprofit organization that conducts independent research and analysis. A specific Rand Study noted that for relief of acute low back pain there was a range of 8 to 18 visits for manipulation to have a lasting effect. We have found that this is the case for whatever the symptoms may be. This study indicates that the human body responds in a timely manner to this kind of treatment.
We provide acute, chronic, and/or preventive care so a certain number of visits are sometimes necessary. When you come in for an appointment, the doctors will tell you the extent of treatment recommended and how long you can expect it to last.
- Is it true that I will get addicted to the adjustments?
Is it true that you may get addicted to the adjustments and need chriopractic care forever? No! This is a myth that is put forth by observers who do not understand the science of chiropractic. Research shows that chiropractic techniques facilitate a healing process in the body which can be profound, lasting, and not duplicated with application of medications. Furthermore, there are different reasons to receive chiropractic care. Most people come to us for pain relief. This can take as little as one or two treatments but usually requires a visit range of 8 to 18 adjustments. Almost always our patients who start with us for pain relief realize that while receiving chiropractic care for their pain problem their other health problems and general ability to function improves substantially. That is when they choose to continue with periodic checkups and related care of their spine. This is why we say "People come to us for pain relief and stay with us for health."
- Who can receive chiropractic healthcare?
Everyone is accepted for care at our clinics with the exception of those who we believe cannot be helped by our method or those who have more urgent heathcare needs which must be addressed by different health care professional elswhere. We treat people of all ages and some with very complicated health ailments. Notice I said we treat people "with" not "for" complicated health ailments. The mere fact that a person may have a serious or fatal disease does not rule out the need for chiropractic care. For example, people with very painful diseases such as cancer can have their pain reduced naturally by chiropractic means and therefore require fewer medications. Pain medications dull the senses and limit the quality of the patient's life. Reducing the need for pain medication has a positive effect and helps people appreciate what living they may have left with their loved ones. We also are very experienced with treating people who have spinal fusions and implants. If a vertebrae is fused, it cannot be adjusted. However, we have found that people experiencing pain after surgery have problems immediately above or below the surgery. That is is where their chiropractic care begins.
- How old must one be to receive chiropractic care?
There are no age limitations at our clinics which would preclude a person form receiving chiropractic care. We have adjusted individuals ranging in age from infant to their 90's. There are many different ways to adjust a patient. Since we are proficient in performing this service without using bones for leverage, infants and brittle boned patients are not usually at risk with our brand of healthcare.
- How will I know if you can help me?
Our practice is organized so that you will be given an abundance of time to explain all of your health concerns to a doctor . After we have a clear understanding of that, more time is set aside for a thorough examination process, tests, and x-rays if necessary. Then after the doctor has fully studied all the results of this process more time is set for you to be briefed in a "report of tests" session, at which time you will be encouraged to ask any questions. You will also be advised as to the severity of your condition, the length of time required to resolve it in a satisfactory conclusion as well as all the costs for such care. At that time our office administrator will inform you as to how much of the cost is covered by a third party such as your insurance carrier and what is left over for you to pay out of your pocket.
- What if my medical physician advises me not to receive chiropractic care?
It is not unusual these days to discover well meaning medical doctors who do not have any training in the art and science of chiropractic care. In fact, no medical school trains its MDs in chiropractic. Consequently, this leave considerable room for mis-understanding between these two fields of higher learning. My advice is for you to seek chiropractic advice from a doctor of chiropractic and seek advice on drugs and surgery from a medical doctor. You wouldn't ask an electrition for plumbing advice, would you? When it come to chiropractic and what it can and can't do, who can and cannot receive it, ask someone who performs the service day in and day out. Since medical doctors are not familiar with the application of chiropractic techniques, they cannot be trusted advisors for it.
- What does a chiropractic adjustment do?
The actual event we call the chiropractic adjustment is a very precisely performed stretching procedure. These procedures can be performed very slowly over many seconds or minutes, or they may only take a split second. The adjustment is not usually painful although some individuals may experience pain or discomfort during the first couple of adjustments. The neurological mechanism at work with this treatment is very complex. To put it simply, it relieves pain sensations and/or nerve compression which causes an interference to the normal healing processes of the human body.
- Can I adjust myself?
No. You may turn or twist to the extent that you hear an audible sound like those heard when the doctor performs the procedure, but that is not the same procedure that is performed by the chiropractor. There is a very significant amount of information that is collected and utilized by the chiropractor before an adjustment is given. The mere popping of a joint is not considered an adjustment and may be damaging to the person's body.
- Why should I consider Bremen Family Health & Wellness Center and the Haralson Spinal Clinics?
Today, consumer-driven health care causes many health practitioners to specialize or sub-specialize. Hospitalists, internalists and other specialists concentrate in specific areas of clinical medicine. You can find doctors with the experience to perform surgeries and administer tests, biopsies, blood work-ups and mammograms. On the other hand, shouldn't the real goal be to keep you well and out of the hospital? Knowing how to listen to, understand and help patients is the essence of family medicine and wellness. At Bremen Family Health and Wellness Center and the Haralson Spinal Clinics we provide a therapeutic response to our patients' concerns, an expertise in dealing with family health and a focus on preventative medicine.
- What conditions do you treat?
Chiropractic care focuses on disorders of the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system and the effects of these disorders on general health.
